No I am not talking about the obvious remakes hitting the theaters this June (although that does seem to be happening). I am talking about the theme for June at Dave's Movie Reviews. June is going to be all about movies that have been remade. I will first review the original (or at least as original as I know of) and then I will review the remake of the film and compare the two. This sounded like a great idea when Pete suggested it, so I have decided to make it into a whole month of remakes.
There is a part of me that absolutely hates remakes (don't we all), but then there is a part of me that sometimes wants a remake of a film that was great but could have been even better with more money, better acting, better special effects etc. Usually though the remake is not as good as the original and often becomes a disappointment. Still the filmmakers out there that run out of ideas and are just looking for the quick and easy buck simply remake something that has been done before. Hopefully we will come across one or two movies where the remake was better than the original, but I have no guarantees.
If you know of a great original and remake that I could review please let me know as soon as possible so I can rent them and review them this month. I hope you all enjoy Remake Movie Month at DMR!

Good idea, but I have a feeling the newer movies (remakes) are going to get bad reviews. Just a hunch.
I don't know, Mike, in the case of 3:10 to Yuma, I thought the remake was spectacular.
But a lot of the movies might not live up to the original. I did not particularly enjoy the new Willie Wonka, but I loved Gene Wilder's version. I heard somewhere, also, that Bill Murray tried out for the remake of Willie Wonka. I would have been interested to see how that turned out. I would have to say the same about Chris Farley's version of Shrek. I liked Meyers, but I wonder how it would have been with Farley.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent there.
Mike -
This was certainly the thought I first thought I had about watching and reviewing remakes, but so far they are actually pretty good.
Homebrewme -
I just watched the 1957 3:10 to Yuma last night in preparation for the original/remake comparison. This Remake movie month is going to be more interesting than I thought and it may even change the way I look at movies these days.
Excellent theme - I look forward to it!
Off the top of my head, how about The Manchurian Candidate? (Note: I hated the remake. Yes, I preferred an older movie to a new one. Shocking indeed.)
