Movie Review – Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Fantastic Mr Fox 1

Finally, I got to see Fantastic Mr. Fox and so I am pleased to be able to review it. I knew it was going to be good because I am rarely disappointed with Wes Anderson’s work and the cast of voices was top notch. In addition to all of that, Fantastic Mr. Fox is very creative in its form and was the first movie I know of that Wes Anderson has actually made suitable for kids. It is usually good, although risky, for a director to step way out of their normal area and make something completely different, but for Anderson it turned out to be quite successful. The best part of this film is that it was great for everyone and still has the Wes Anderson style to it. I was shocked at the way he was able to take all of the cussing out of the movie without actually taking the cussing out of the movie; ingenious.

Fantastic Mr Fox 2

The voice acting was great, but really had little to do with the overall greatness of the film. The true talent was picking out the cast and making the characters fit them so well. It is also always good to hear familiar voices in animated films. Clooney’s style was perfect for the part of Mr. Fox and of course Schwartzman can easily be seen as the weird kid that is mostly ignored even by his own father.

Fantastic Mr Fox 3

The directing and writing along with the artistic cinematography are what really made this film what it is. The story is a good one written by Roald Dahl and the scripting from Wes Anderson is nothing short of excellence. You are still able to easily identify that Wes Anderson has written the dialogue because it is that dry, swift witty humor that only he can give us. Tying that into Anderson’s newest type of animated film and you get something that is truly great to watch on screen. The comedy is non stop through out and there is plenty of action as well. We even get some decent moral values to go along with that so that those looking for a meaningful film are not left out.

Fantastic Mr Fox 5

Overall, we are given more than just a see it once type of film. All of Anderson’s films are rewatchables, but Fantastic Mr. Fox stands out because you could watch it with the whole family. If you are looking for a movie to go see with the family then this is a great one. I saw it alone and loved it so that proves that it is animation good for all ages and probably even for those that do not care for animation (it is different).
